Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne has died by suicide.
He is reported to have shot himself at his residence in Athurugiriya.
Mr. C.D. Wickramaratne, who served in the police service for more than 30 years, was the 35th IGP of Sri Lanka.
It is also reported that this is the first time in the history of the Sri Lanka Police that an IGP has died by suicide by shooting himself.
