The Bribery Commission informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (10) that it will proceed with filing indictments after completing the investigation into the corruption case filed against former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne and former Chairman of the relevant institution Upali Liyanage.

The Bribery Commission made this statement when the case related to the alleged corruption incident was taken up before the court.

Presenting further facts regarding the incident, the Bribery Commission informed the court that the investigation against the two suspects has now been completed and that indictments are scheduled to be filed before the High Court.

The two suspects also appeared before the court today in connection with the case.

Charges had been filed against them over allegations that they caused a loss of more than Rs. 20 million to the government by awarding a sand mining project at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour to a Korean company.

The two suspects had previously been remanded in custody in connection with the incident and were later released on bail.

The case is scheduled to be taken up again on December 4.
