The Department of Meteorology says the temperature felt by the human body today (09) has reached a level requiring attention in parts of the Batticaloa, Ampara, and Monaragala districts.
According to the department, this assessment has been made based on atmospheric humidity and maximum temperature values obtained through the analysis of data from global numerical weather prediction models.
In view of the prevailing conditions, people at workplaces are advised to drink sufficient water and take regular breaks in shaded areas.
The department also urges the public to pay special attention to elderly and sick individuals at home.
In addition, young children should not be left unattended inside vehicles, while excessive strenuous outdoor activities should be limited.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology recommends wearing white or light-coloured clothing to help cope with the high temperatures.
