The family of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Salle, who is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has today (23) sent a letter to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV seeking his intervention regarding the humanitarian concerns surrounding him.

Accordingly, the letter was handed over this morning to the Apostolic Nuncio in Sri Lanka, the official representative of the Holy Father, at the Apostolic Nunciature.

Former SIS Director Suresh Salle, who was admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka after commencing a fast while in CID custody in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, continues to receive treatment at the hospital.

Today marks the 16th day since his admission to the National Hospital.

Against this backdrop, the family of Mr. Suresh Salle has taken steps to formally communicate their concerns to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV through the letter submitted today.

The development comes at a time when several priests of the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka have publicly expressed their views regarding Mr. Salle during a number of media briefings and press conferences.
