A letter signed by opposition Members of Parliament has been handed over to the Speaker, highlighting the delay in appointing judges to vacancies in the Supreme Court and urging immediate action to fill those positions.
The letter was submitted to Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne in Parliament today (12).
Through the letter, opposition MPs have requested the President, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Constitutional Council, to pay urgent attention to the matter and take the necessary steps to safeguard the independence of the judiciary by filling the existing vacancies in the Supreme Court.
