The Uva Province has the highest rate of malnutrition among children under the age of five in Sri Lanka, according to Dr. Wasana Marasinghe, a nutritionist at the Badulla Teaching Hospital.
She made these remarks while addressing an awareness programme held at the Badulla Teaching Hospital yesterday (10), in conjunction with an awareness walk organized to highlight the importance of proper nutrition.
Dr. Marasinghe further stated that, in addition to malnutrition, overnutrition—resulting in unnecessary weight gain—is also prevalent among children in the province.
According to the doctor, the primary reason for both conditions is the low level of public awareness regarding proper nutrition.
