A group of 10 individuals linked to Sri Lanka’s underworld, including notorious drug trafficker Shiran Basik, has reportedly been arrested by security authorities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Shiran Basik was arrested in Dubai, where he had reportedly been living as a businessman. Reports indicate that he was also engaged in business activities in the country.
It is stated that the United Arab Emirates launched an investigation into individuals maintaining links with Iran amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East region. As a result of that investigation, Shiran Basik was allegedly taken into custody.
Authorities claim that he had connections with Iranian drug traffickers.
Reports also say that Shiran Basik had maintained ties with two major political parties in Sri Lanka in recent years. During the last general election period, intelligence agencies and the police had alleged that he coordinated individuals from the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia area from Dubai for political meetings.
