Sri Lanka Imposes 50% Surcharge on Imported Vehicles for Three Months
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ministry of Finance has decided to impose a 50% surcharge on the applicable customs import duties for imported vehicles.

According to a special gazette notification issued under the signature of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the 50% surcharge will be effective for a period of three months starting from today (16).

However, the gazette states that the new 50% surcharge will not apply to vehicles for which letters of credit were opened on or before May 15.

The Ministry of Finance had previously decided to remove the 50% surcharge from April 1. However, steps have now been taken to implement it from today.
