Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and Samagi Jana Sandhanaya, as green political forces, have established the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentary Forum for Environmental Conservation in Parliament. He said that, as a party and alliance, they are committed to ensuring environmental conservation through policy formulation in several key areas, including wildlife protection and the protection of animal resources.

He made these remarks during the inauguration of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentary Forum for Environmental Conservation.

The Opposition Leader further stated that environmental changes caused by rising global temperatures have severely impacted the lives of ordinary people and have led to destruction in various extreme ways. He emphasized that, in such a situation, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, as an environmentally conscious party, should place environmental conservation at the forefront of the national agenda. He added that the forum should focus on developing proper policies and ensuring environmental security.

He also noted that achieving environmental security requires obtaining training from international environmental organizations and prioritizing green zone programmes.
