Public Security Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne pleaded guilty on Thursday before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court for failing to prevent an accident in connection with a 2023 road accident on Marine Drive in Wellawatte.

The case was taken up before Magistrate Kanchana Niranjala Silva.

Appearing on behalf of Mr. Seneviratne, Attorney Chandana Perera informed the court that the second and third charges — reckless driving and driving under the influence of liquor — could not be maintained and requested that they be withdrawn.

The Wellawatte Police, which is prosecuting the case, did not object to the request to withdraw the second and third charges.

After considering the submissions, the magistrate fixed June 26 to deliver an order on sentencing for the charge to which Mr. Seneviratne pleaded guilty. The court will also rule on the defence’s request to withdraw the remaining two charges.
