The Indian High Commission and its Consulates in Sri Lanka organized a series of events during the holy month of Ramadan, celebrating the spirit of community and compassion.
An Iftar reception was hosted by the High Commissioner of India, H.E. Santosh Jha, at the ITC Ratnadipa on 24 February 2026. The event was graced by the Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Dr. Rizvie Salih, as Chief Guest. It was attended by Members of Parliament, heads and representatives of foreign missions, senior government officials, members of the judiciary, and business leaders.
Throughout the month, festive kits, essential supplies, and provisions were distributed to needy families across various parts of the country.
On 17 March, High Commissioner Santosh Jha distributed essential supplies to families in Puttalam at the Mihraipuram Jumma Masjid. A day earlier, on 16 March, the High Commission, in coordination with local associations and community members, distributed food supplies to families in several areas of Colombo.
Meanwhile, the Consulate General of India in Jaffna carried out distribution programmes in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, and Mullaitivu between 11 and 16 March 2026. The Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Ramalingam Chandrasekar, joined events in Mannar and Kilinochchi, while Members of Parliament Rajeevan Jeyachandramurthy, Ilangkumaran Karunanathan, and S. Thilaganathan participated in events in Jaffna and Mullaitivu.
These initiatives were aimed at spreading the festive spirit of Ramadan and further strengthening the enduring people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.
