Mr. Chinthaka Hewapathirana, representing the National People’s Force, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, Sri Lanka Latest News reports.
The election, held today, saw Mr. Hewapathirana receive 22 votes in his favor, while 21 votes were cast against him. With this narrow margin, the National People’s Force secured control of the Pradeshiya Sabha by a majority of just one vote.
The chairmanship had been vacant since October 22nd, following the tragic shooting of former Chairman Mr. Lasantha Wickramasekera in his office.
