The special committee appointed by the Cabinet to recommend suitable development activities for currently unused lands owned by the Urban Development Authority (UDA), located adjacent to Gregory Lake on the Dunn Bypass Road in Nuwara Eliya, has recommended the implementation of a recreational development project aimed at attracting foreign tourists.
The recommendation specifically proposes that the project be implemented on the 10-acre land plot identified as Road 03, Parvas 28.04, which is owned by the Urban Development Authority and situated adjacent to Gregory Lake.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development to invite investment proposals through an international competitive procurement procedure. Under this proposal, the relevant land plot will be disposed of to a suitable investor for a period of 50 years in order to implement the proposed project, Cabinet Media Spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa stated.
He made these remarks at the Cabinet media briefing held today (27) to inform the public of the decisions taken by the Cabinet of Ministers.
