The US Embassy in Colombo has released an important statement regarding visa regulations for Sri Lankans traveling to the United States.
A strong warning has been issued concerning employment in the United States, particularly for individuals entering the country under the B1 and B2 (Visitor Visa) categories.
The embassy emphasized that only certain business activities are allowed under these visa types, while employment—whether paid or unpaid—is strictly prohibited.
Permitted activities include business negotiations, discussions on agreements, participation in professional conferences, and tourism. Any form of employment is not allowed under a B1 or B2 visa.
The embassy also highlighted the severe consequences for those who enter the US on a visitor visa and engage in unauthorized employment. Individuals found violating these rules may be immediately deported and could face a permanent visa ban, preventing future entry into the United States.
Sri Lankan travelers are strongly urged to fully understand the type of visa they hold and the activities permitted under it before traveling to the United States.
