CID Probe Finds Irresponsible Officer Behind Website Code in Grade 6 English Module
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the Grade 6 English module have revealed that the controversial website code found in the material was included due to the irresponsible actions of a particular officer.

Although the names of several officers who were reportedly responsible for supervising the module appear in the records, the investigation has found no evidence that any of them exercised proper oversight during the printing process.

The CID has already recorded statements from officers involved at every stage of the module’s development, from drafting to printing, as well as from the scholars who contributed to its preparation. Approximately 300 to 350 copies of the module were initially printed for use in teacher training programmes conducted as part of the new education reforms.

During the course of the investigation, CID officers also established that although the modules were distributed to teachers during training workshops, the controversial website code did not draw the attention of any of the participating teachers.

By that time, around 5,000 teachers had already taken part in the training programmes. A senior police officer stated that the findings uncovered so far will be presented before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court in due course.
