A high-level delegation from the Communist Party of China (CPC) met with a group of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leaders, including JVP General Secretary Comrade Tilvin Silva, at the JVP headquarters yesterday (24) afternoon.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the Communist Party of China and the JVP.
Discussions also focused on the history of the JVP, the current political situation in Sri Lanka, and cooperation activities planned for 2025 in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s official visit to China.
Both parties further exchanged views on the need for, and measures to, strengthen cooperation between the Communist Party of China and the JVP in the coming year.
The Chinese delegation included Wang Junzheng, Member of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the Xizang Autonomous Region; Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong; Director-General of the Southeast and South Asian Affairs Bureau of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Comrade Peng Xiubin; and several other representatives.
Representing the JVP were Politburo Member and Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti, Central Committee Member and Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, along with other party representatives.
JVP General Secretary Comrade Tilvin Silva expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the assistance and support extended by the Chinese government to the people of Sri Lanka affected by Cyclone Ditva.
In response, Comrade Wang Junzheng stated that he hopes to continue providing such assistance in the future.
Comrade Wang Junzheng also noted that the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, held last October, as well as the programme conducted in Sri Lanka in conjunction with the 20th Central Committee, concluded successfully yesterday (23).
Additionally, Comrade Wang Junzheng shared his views on China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, which is currently under discussion.
The meeting concluded with further discussions on the need for, and strategies to, enhance cooperation between the Communist Party of China and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna in the year ahead.
