Supreme Court Justice Yasantha Kodagoda has been appointed as Acting Chief Justice by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The appointment takes effect today (7), as a group of nine judges, led by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, are scheduled to depart for India on a week-long official study tour.
Justice Kodagoda began his legal career at the Attorney General’s Department as a State Counsel. He was later appointed President of the Court of Appeal while serving as Senior Additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Department. Subsequently, he was elevated to the Supreme Court. This marks the first time he has been appointed as Acting Chief Justice.
