The Deputy General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Noel Priyantha, says that approximately 85% of the 3.9 million consumers who experienced power outages due to the recent emergency situation have now been reconnected. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
He made this statement during a special briefing at the Disaster Operations Media Center.
According to Priyantha, Sri Lanka has nearly 7 million electricity consumers in total, and of them, 3.9 million lost their electricity supply as a result of the emergency. He noted that about 85% of those affected consumers have already had their connections restored.
He further stated that 16,771 transformers became inoperative during the crisis, and of those, 14,549 have now been restored. The remaining disconnected supplies will also be reconnected promptly, he assured. Priyantha added that it is deeply regrettable that one electricity worker lost his life during the restoration efforts.
