President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the support of the country’s business community is essential in providing relief to those affected by the adverse weather conditions, as well as in implementing the program to restore normalcy. Sri Lanka Latest News
He made these remarks during a discussion with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce held last night (29) at the Tri-Forces Defense Headquarters.
The President briefed the business community on the current situation in the country and the government’s ongoing efforts to rescue and provide relief to the affected population. He also highlighted the potential areas where their support could be extended in these activities.
The discussion further focused on the challenges faced by the industrial sector during the emergency situation, along with the urgent measures required to keep the sector strong and progressing without allowing the national economy to decline.
Members of the business community also brought to the President’s attention several issues concerning tourism, airports, and transportation. Discussions were held on restoring electricity and drinking water supplies once the disaster situation subsides, as well as on the immediate actions needed for the development of selected infrastructure facilities, including highways and bridges.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath; Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake; Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma; Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha; the Commanders of the Tri-Forces; the Inspector General of Police and senior security officers; and the President of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Krishan Balendran, along with its members, were also present at the event.
