The Attorney General informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (19) that the investigation into the case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe over the alleged misappropriation of public funds will be concluded within a month, after which the case will be referred to a higher court. Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris conveyed this to the court while responding to a request made by former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake, who had submitted a motion seeking the removal of the foreign travel ban imposed on him in connection with the case.
However, following the prosecution’s assurance that the investigation would be completed expeditiously, the lawyers representing former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake withdrew their request to lift the foreign travel ban imposed on their client.
