A tense situation was reported near the office of Speaker of Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne yesterday (18), Sri Lanka Latest News.

The incident occurred when a cobra attempted to enter the premises. The reptile was initially spotted by office staff as it tried to enter through a window connected to the Speaker’s dining area.

Following the report, an officer from the Parliament’s Animal Control and Parks Division promptly responded and safely removed the cobra from the location.

For many years, various species of snakes — including cobras — have frequently found their way into the Parliament premises, which is situated near the Diyawanna Oya.

According to the Parks Division, nearly twenty snakes have been removed from the area in the past, all without causing any harm or risk.
