Construction work on the Kadawatha to Mirigama section of the Central Expressway will officially resume tomorrow (September 17), Sri Lanka Latest News reports.
The relaunch of the project will take place under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
As part of this renewed effort, work will begin on the Kadawatha Interchange Hub as well as the first 500 meters of the expressway.
The government has allocated Rs. 8.6 billion for the project.
Construction on this section was halted in mid-2022 following the suspension of credit facilities due to the country’s economic crisis.
To facilitate the resumption, a yuan-denominated loan equivalent to USD 500 million has been approved by the Export-Import Bank of China (Exim Bank).
The 37-kilometer stretch between Kadawatha and Mirigama is expected to be fully completed by mid-2028.
