Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has informed Parliament that investigations into the murder of Sunday Leader editor and veteran journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga, as well as the assault on journalist Keith Noyar, have now been completed.
The Minister stated that the case files have been forwarded to the Attorney General for the filing of indictments against those responsible. He further emphasized that it was the present government that took steps to revive these investigations, which had long remained dormant.
Minister Wijepala also noted that a three-judge High Court is currently hearing the case concerning the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda. He added that a brigadier accused of influencing witnesses in the matter has been remanded in custody.
