Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman today (30) tabled in Parliament the long-awaited report by the Presidential-appointed committee investigating the controversial release of containers without mandatory scanning procedures.
Addressing Parliament, MP Rahman alleged that the government had deliberately withheld the committee report and failed to present it to the House until now. He emphasized that, in the interest of transparency, he was taking steps to officially table the document.
According to the report, a total of 151 containers classified under the red risk category—requiring compulsory scanning—were reviewed. Shockingly, it was revealed that 37 of these high-risk containers were released without undergoing any scanning process.
The MP highlighted that while officials responsible for scanning had issued written notes recommending that these 37 containers be scanned, the report confirms they were released without the required checks.
Furthermore, the report discloses that in total, 103 containers that were subject to mandatory scanning procedures were released without any scans being conducted.
MP Rahman also pointed out an alarming timeline discrepancy. While the official decision to release these containers was dated January 18, two of the containers had in fact been released a day earlier, on January 17.
