The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has announced that it will not take part in the discussion scheduled for today (15) concerning the formation of administrative power in all local government institutions—including municipal councils, urban councils, and Pradeshiya Sabhas—where the National People’s Power (NPP) does not hold a majority.
This meeting, expected to bring together the general secretaries of various political parties, follows an agreement reached yesterday (14) among opposition party leaders to collectively establish control in such local bodies.
Despite its decision to abstain from the discussion, the SLPP has confirmed that it will extend its fullest support toward the continued functioning and stability of local government institutions.
Furthermore, the party emphasized that it has no intention of forming any political alliance in relation to the establishment of power within these institutions.
