A youth who was arrested by the Kosgoda Police has died after being admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital, reportedly due to a sudden illness.
The individual, who was said to be severely addicted to drugs, was taken into custody yesterday (02) afternoon in connection with a drug-related incident.
However, the deceased’s family members allege that the youth died as a result of an assault while in police custody.
In contrast, police officials have stated that the suspect fainted inside the police cell due to a sudden illness and was subsequently admitted to the hospital. They further confirmed that the individual passed away following his admission.
