Less than a month after a female doctor was raped on hospital premises, another horrifying incident has come to light — a young woman has allegedly been sexually assaulted by a doctor at the Negombo District General Hospital.

According to the complaint, the woman, who had visited the outpatient department for treatment, was abused by the doctor during her medical consultation.

Responding to the incident, Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, the media spokesperson for the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), confirmed that the accused doctor had previously been expelled from their association.

“This doctor was removed from our membership in 2021 for violating the constitution of the GMOA and for misconduct,” Dr. Wijesinghe stated. He emphasized the need for a thorough and impartial investigation, stressing that the law must be enforced without delay.

“We cannot afford to take this incident lightly. The GMOA is fully committed to supporting the investigation and will not shield anyone found guilty,” he added.

A detailed report on the incident has been requested from Negombo Hospital, and calls are growing louder for swift and decisive action against the accused.
