Colombo High Court has sentenced former North Central Province Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith and his personal secretary, Shanthi Chandrasena, to 16 years in prison each after being found guilty of corruption charges filed by the Bribery Commission.
Additionally, both defendants have been fined Rs. 200,000 each.
The case, filed by the Bribery Commission, accused the two of unlawfully obtaining Rs. 2,080,500 as fuel allowances during Ranjith’s tenure as Chief Minister of the North Central Province.
