The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted permission for DMK leader T.R. Baalu to replace former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi as the petitioner in a long-standing legal challenge concerning agreements between India and Sri Lanka over the ceding of Katchatheevu. Karunanidhi, who originally filed the petition, passed away in 2018. The case, which has been ongoing for over a decade, questions the legality of these agreements that led to the transfer of the island to Sri Lanka.
