In a notable development, both Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) appointed under the patronage of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe are currently in remand custody following serious allegations.

During the previous administration of good governance, Pujith Jayasundara was appointed as the IGP upon the request of then-Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. However, he was later removed from his position due to negligence in connection with the controversial Easter Sunday attacks. Following legal proceedings, Jayasundara was also ordered to pay a substantial sum as compensation.

Similarly, Deshabandu Tennakoon was appointed as the IGP while Ranil Wickremesinghe was serving as President. However, he, too, is now in remand custody after being removed from his post. His arrest is linked to the shooting incident that occurred at the W15 Hotel in Matara on December 31.

Furthermore, Arjuna Mahendran, who was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank by Ranil Wickremesinghe during the good governance era, is currently in Singapore after fleeing the country amid allegations related to the Central Bank bond scandal.
