Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has announced Dr. Ruwes Hanifa as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) candidate for Mayor of Colombo, emphasizing his vision to transform the city into a highly advanced urban center. Premadasa highlighted Dr. Hanifa as a people-oriented, public-spirited professional who possesses exceptional intelligence, talent, skill, courage, and determination—qualities essential for leading Colombo towards a progressive future.
Dr. Hanifa, a dedicated medical professional, has significantly contributed to the independent health sector. He has served in Negombo, Ampara, and Sri Jayewardenepura hospitals, treating hundreds of thousands of patients. Additionally, he is actively involved in academia, currently teaching at the medical faculties of the University of Kelaniya and the University of Colombo. Notably, he is a lecturer in family health and played a pivotal role in establishing the subject at the University of Colombo.
Premadasa emphasized that the SJB is committed to introducing a new face, new leadership, and a capable administrator to Colombo. The party aims to build a prosperous city with improved infrastructure, sustainable income sources, and solutions to the housing crisis.
