Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was issued a warrant in connection with the 2023 Weligama shooting incident in Matara, appeared before the Matara Magistrate’s Court a short while ago.
This development comes after the Court of Appeal yesterday dismissed, without hearing, a writ petition filed by Tennakoon. The petition sought an interim injunction to prevent the enforcement of the Matara Magistrate’s Court order related to the case.
Following the ruling, the Court of Appeal bench directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately arrest Tennakoon and present him before the court.
Against this backdrop, the IGP appeared before the Matara Magistrate’s Court this morning (19).
