Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has directed the Sergeant-at-Arms, Kushan Jayaratne, to remove stray dogs roaming within the Parliament premises.
According to reports, more than ten dogs are currently present within the premises, causing inconvenience to both parliamentary staff and visitors.
Sources reveal that the Speaker was visibly disturbed upon encountering a dog near his feet while inspecting the Parliament buildings recently. Taken aback, he inquired, “Are there any dogs here?”
Following this incident, the Speaker issued instructions to the Sergeant-at-Arms to take necessary measures to remove the dogs from the premises.
