NPP Representatives Halt Frontline Socialist Party Seminar in Angunakolapelessa Amid Rising Tensions

A group of representatives from the National People’s Power (NPP) disrupted and halted a seminar organized by the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) in the Angunakolapelessa area.

The protesters declared that such gatherings would not be permitted anywhere in the district.

The party states that this conference was organized under the theme ‘Kudittho and Ambaruwo in Agriculture’ to discuss the issues faced by the farming community. However, due to the escalating tensions at the venue, the organizers decided to call off the event and vacate the premises.

Sunil Ratnayake, Hambantota District Organizer of the All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation, who was among those opposing the seminar, defended the government’s agricultural policies. He emphasized that the administration had ensured a fair guaranteed price that benefits both farmers and consumers.

“This government was brought to power by the farmers, and now they receive a fair price for their paddy. The Frontline Socialist Party is attempting to undermine the government’s progress, and we will not allow it,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Wimal Wattuhewa, the convener of the conference, condemned the disruption, accusing the JVP of resorting to its typical violent tactics to obstruct the event. He argued that the JVP fails to grasp the true struggles of the agricultural sector, which is largely controlled by multinational corporations and influential rice mill owners.
