Sri Lanka Customs issued a special press release this afternoon (29) to address recent media reports concerning the release of 323 imported containers without undergoing customs inspection.
The eight-point press release outlines the standard procedures followed by Sri Lanka Customs for the release of goods, the reasons behind delays in clearing the containers selected for inspection, and the overall factors contributing to these delays.
Additionally, the statement categorically confirms that none of the mentioned containers were imported under the name of Espo Lanka.
Sri Lanka Customs further assured that there is no possibility of unauthorized entry of illicit goods—such as weapons, gold, or drugs—into the country, nor any risk of customs revenue loss.
