A man involved in a racket of selling train tickets to foreign tourists at exorbitant prices has been arrested following a raid conducted by officers of the Kandy Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau. The operation was carried out based on a tip-off, police reported.
The arrest took place yesterday evening (22) in the Suduhumpola area of Kandy. The suspect, identified as a 37-year-old resident of Suduhumpola, was apprehended during the raid.
Authorities seized several items during the operation, including 21 tickets for the Odyssey train that were purchased online, Rs. 130,670 believed to have been earned through the illicit ticket sales, 130 written records detailing information about the sales, and a mobile phone.
The suspect has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries, police confirmed.
