The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has carried out the eviction of unauthorized residents near the Meethotamulla garbage dump in Kolonnawa, demolishing 24 houses constructed on the site in accordance with a court order.
The land, owned by the UDA, had been occupied by residents for an extended period. However, following legal proceedings at the Aluthkade No. 05 Magistrate’s Court, the UDA secured an order to remove the unauthorized occupants.
The UDA stated that alternative apartments within the Kolonnawa area had been allocated to the affected residents. Despite these provisions, a group of individuals refused to vacate the premises, prompting the legal action and subsequent court-mandated eviction.
The evictions were conducted under the supervision of UDA officials and the Registrar of the Aluthkade No. 05 Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, some of the displaced residents have expressed concerns, claiming they have no alternative housing options.
