CBL Samaposha continues legacy of powering Inter-SchoolFootball Championship for 13 years consecutively

CBL Samaposha is proud to be the sponsor of the ‘CBL Samaposha Under-14 Inter-School Football Championship’ for the thirteenth consecutive time.

The ‘CBL Samaposha Under-14 Inter-School Football Tournament’ is organized by the Sri Lanka School Football Association (SSFA) and scheduled to be held in the months of January and February 2025. Notably, the Sri Lanka Football Federation is providing guidance and direction for the tournament.

With over 12,000 school football players taking part in the tournament, the enthusiastic response to the school football championship over the years has been exceptional from schools islandwide.

Participants for the championship are from across all twenty-five districts of the island with matches to be held in 32 centers, with 492 boys teams and 118 girls teams competitions. In the tournament, 32 winning boys’ teams and 28 girls’ teams will qualify for the second round to be held in Vavuniya.

The first round of the tournament began on January 1st, while the second round is scheduled to held from on February 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Vavuniya. Special recognition and awards are to be presented at the end of the tournament for the best player from both the boys and girls categories and the best goalkeeper.

Commenting on the championship, CBL Food Cluster Director/Chief Executive Officer Manjula Dahanayake said, “CBL Samaposha sponsors this football tournament with the aim of developing the interest of Sri Lankan school children in football, thereby building teamwork, discipline, and future sporting aspirations. As a local company, it is our aim to always support the future of the nation’s and that is what we hope to achieve through the tournament’s sponsorship.”

Expressing his views, the President of Sri Lanka Football Federation, Jaswar Umar noted. “We are committed to further developing the world’s most popular sport, football, for the youth of Sri Lanka and every citizen. I am delighted to support the CBL Samaposha Under-14 All Island Schools Football Championship, which is being held for the 13th time by CBL Samaposha. The tournament goes beyond a football match as it a tournament that aims to nurture the future generations of our country. Joining hands with CBL Samaposha, we aim to hold another unforgettable football tournament that will showcase the talents and skills of our school players. Our aim is to join hands with CBL Samaposha and hold another unforgettable football tournament that will appreciate the talents and skills of our school players.”

The President of the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association, U. S. A. Bandara Leelarathna, said, “The competition is unique as students from remote cities and areas of the country have the opportunity to participate and compete. The Under-14 teams are now significantly better prepared. Therefore, we have high expectations for this year’s competition. I would like to thank CBL Samaposha for supporting these endeavours towards a successful competition.”

Commenting on the rapid growth and popularity of football, Director Sports and Physical Education, Ministry of Education, Lt/Col Anura Abeywickrema said, “The tournament may be the first tournament a football player will compete in. Therefore, it will have an immense impact on their future sporting career. Such tournaments will continue to be essential for the sporting arena. The support provided by Samaposha to continue the tournament over the past 13 years is greatly appreciated.”
