Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, announced the initiation of a special investigation into the allocation of lands for various purposes since 2015. The inquiry aims to address irregularities and ensure accountability.
Dr. Ranasinghe revealed that necessary legal measures will follow the findings of the investigation. Speaking at a media briefing after a ceremony held in Anuradhapura, the Deputy Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving issues surrounding land distribution.
“Lands are allocated for industrial and agricultural purposes through the Land Reform Commission (LRC). However, significant concerns have arisen regarding the distribution and assignment of these lands in the past. The Cabinet has recently decided to halt further allocations by the LRC until a thorough investigation is conducted,” Dr. Ranasinghe explained.
He further elaborated, “This investigation will examine who received lands from the LRC since 2015, the projects involved, and the criteria used for allocation. We aim to determine whether any corruption or irregularities occurred during this process and take appropriate action to address such issues.”
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in managing public resources, ensuring that land allocations serve the intended purposes effectively.
