CID Launches Probe into Alleged Misuse of President’s Fund by Politicians Under Previous Governments

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched comprehensive investigations into allegations of fund misappropriation by politicians involving the President’s Fund during previous administrations. These inquiries were initiated under the directive of Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya.

Investigations carried out by the current government uncovered instances where funds from the President’s Fund were disbursed to certain politicians without proper justification during past regimes.

Addressing Parliament recently, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa highlighted specific cases where politicians reportedly accessed these funds for personal health-related expenses.

It has since come to light that a group of former Members of Parliament, ministers, and other political figures allegedly misused the President’s Fund, not only for health-related purposes but also for other questionable expenditures.

In response to these findings, Acting Inspector General Weerasuriya emphasized the necessity of the CID’s ongoing investigations.

According to police sources, plans are underway to record statements from the politicians implicated in these allegations, as the inquiry progresses.
