The enforcement of a circular issued by the Provincial Ministry of Education prohibiting school teachers in the Western Province from conducting private tuition classes has been temporarily halted.
According to reports, this decision was made following instructions from the Western Province Governor.
The circular, issued last Friday by the Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Education, explicitly barred teachers in the province from offering paid tuition to students enrolled in their own schools.
Deputy Minister of Labor, Mahinda Jayasinghe, explained that the suspension came in response to objections raised against the directive.
In addition, Deputy Minister Jayasinghe confirmed that another circular, issued by the Ministry of Education on November 17 regarding modules under the Teacher Efficiency Reduction Program, has also been temporarily suspended.
