National People’s Power (NPP) MP Nilanthi Kottachchi emphasized the democratic rights of citizens, stating that people have the freedom to label any truth as a lie or any lie as the truth.
Speaking at a public meeting in Kalutara, she remarked that citizens also have the right to criticize the negative aspects of an institution or government, even when it undertakes positive initiatives.
“Any leader can justify their actions as good, even if they significantly harm society. However, the government will not interfere with the democratic rights of the people,” she noted.
MP Kottachchi further urged the public to exercise patience, emphasizing the importance of waiting to see the results of any initiative before passing judgment.
Her remarks underscored the balance between democratic freedoms and the responsibility to evaluate outcomes thoughtfully.
