Five excise officers have been taken into custody over allegations of assaulting homeowners during a drug raid in the Gothatuwa area.
According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga, complaints were lodged stating that the officers forcibly entered a residence around 10:00 PM on the 11th of last month and conducted a search.
A woman residing in the house reported to the Gothatuwa Police that the officers had assaulted her and her two young children during the incident. She further alleged that her clothes were torn amidst the altercation.
The suspects were subsequently presented before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court, where they were granted bail.
