The 22nd DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship concluded a resounding success, showcasing the exceptional talent and passion for volleyball among young athletes from across Sri Lanka. The prestigious tournament, held recently at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, was a collaborative effort by DSI, the School Volleyball Association, and the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation.

With over 4,000 teams participating at the district level, this year’s competition highlighted the growing popularity of volleyball in Sri Lanka and the dedication of its young players.

Dhammissara National School, Nattandiya, emerged as the tournament’s standout performer, sweeping the Under-11 and Under-13 categories in both Boys’ and Girls’ divisions. Other notable victories included H/Vijayaba National School, Hungama, claiming the Under-15 Girls’ title, while Dhammissara National School secured the Boys’ title in the same age group.

In the Under-17 Girls’ category, Giri/Vikramashila National School, Giriulla, took home the trophy, with Dhammissara National School once again winning the Boys’ title. The Under-19 Boys’ title went to Ka/Dehi/Rajasingha Central College, Ruwanwella, while H/Vijayaba National School, Hungama, triumphed in the Under-19 Girls’ category.

Individual honours were awarded to K. S. M. Iduranga of Ka/Dehi/Rajasingha Central College, who was named the Best Player (Boys), and K. M. Harshani Nisansala of Vikramashila National School, who won Best Player (Girls).

Mr. Thusitha Rajapaksa, Managing Director of D. Samson and Sons (Pvt) Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament’s impact on Sri Lanka’s volleyball scene. “The primary objective of DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship is to develop the skills of school athletes from both urban and rural areas, elevate them to the national level, and pave the way for Sri Lankan representation on the international stage. We are proud to note that this tournament has not only been instrumental in promoting volleyball but has also helped us solidify our position as the leader among school shoe brands.”

The championship not only provided a competitive platform for young players but also highlighted DSI’s ongoing commitment to promoting Sri Lanka’s national sport. Over the years, the tournament has been instrumental in producing several national-level players, underscoring its importance in nurturing talent at the school level.

Mr. Thusitha extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants, coaches, officials, and volunteers whose efforts made the championship a resounding success and reaffirmed DSI’s dedication to supporting the development of volleyball in Sri Lanka.
