In a significant crackdown, officers from the Excise Department raided a renowned casino in Kollupitiya that was illegally operating multiple liquor counters.

The operation was launched following information received by the Commissioner General of Excise. During the raid, authorities discovered 100 bottles of duty-free foreign liquor, valued at over Rs. 2.5 million.

The five-storey casino reportedly served free liquor to its members through counters situated on each floor. However, the Excise Department clarified that under the terms of the liquor license issued for the location, only one liquor counter is permitted. This violation is believed to contribute to substantial tax losses for the country.

The raid was conducted under the direct instructions of the Commissioner General of Excise and involved officers from the department’s head office as well as personnel from the Colombo City Excise Office.
