It has come to light that United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has quietly secured an extension of his leadership for another six years, encompassing all party members.
This decision was reportedly formalized during the recent party conference held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. A clause was introduced and adopted into the party’s constitution, granting Mr. Wickremesinghe a six-year extension in leadership without prior notification to party members or the public.
Furthermore, the newly adopted constitution stipulates that all current positions within the party will be vacated by the end of December this year. It has been revealed that Mr. Wickremesinghe has assumed the authority to appoint individuals to these vacant positions.
At 75 years old, Ranil Wickremesinghe continues to maintain a firm grip on the party’s leadership, shaping its future direction with this recent move.
