The Attanagalla Magistrate’s Court clarified today that no directive has been issued to excavate for treasures in the Wanduramba area of Veyangoda, near the Central Expressway.
Delivering the statement in open court, Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne emphasized that the order pertained solely to investigating metallic materials found in the soil. This investigation was based on a report submitted by the Police Special Task Force regarding the excavation activities at the site.
The Magistrate made this clarification during proceedings when the facts surrounding the excavation were presented in court.
Separately, at a Cabinet media briefing held earlier today, Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the excavation was conducted in accordance with a court order and not as part of any government decision.
