The National People’s Power Party (NPP) has achieved a landmark victory in the recently concluded general election, announced Tilvin Silva, the General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
Speaking at a media briefing held at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatte, Silva highlighted that this marks the highest number of seats secured by a single political party since the introduction of the proportional representation system in the country.
The NPP clinched an impressive 159 seats in the 225-member parliament, setting a new record in Sri Lanka’s electoral history.
Expressing gratitude, Silva extended his thanks to everyone who contributed to this significant triumph on behalf of his party.
“We are beginning to grasp the magnitude of this victory,” he stated. “The public has placed immense trust in us, and we must honor that trust. This victory signifies the end of an era dominated by powerful political elites. The era of old politics and family-dominated privilege is now over. The people have chosen to embrace a new political culture founded on our principles and practices.”
Silva emphasized that the NPP’s success was a collective achievement of the people, demonstrating their desire for transformative change in the political landscape.
