Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has announced plans to present an assessment report to the Cabinet concerning the security arrangements for former presidents.
The decision on whether to adjust the level of security provided to former presidents will be made by the Cabinet after reviewing this report, according to Acting IGP Weerasuriya.
The report will be prepared based on recommendations from a committee specifically appointed to evaluate the security and facilities provided to former presidents. The Acting IGP intends to submit the report to the Cabinet through the Ministry of Defense.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently appointed this three-member committee to examine the security protocols and accommodations for former presidents. The committee’s report is also expected to be submitted to the President shortly.
