The Supreme Court has dismissed, without a hearing, a Fundamental Rights petition filed by former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who is contesting in the upcoming general election from the Gampaha District under the United Democratic Voice Party.
This decision was delivered by a three-judge bench comprising Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe, and Achala Wengappuli, following their acceptance of preliminary objections raised by the respondent’s legal team.
The petition was originally filed by K.M. Mahinda Senanayake, an independent candidate from the Gampaha District, naming the Election Commission and its members, Ranjan Ramanayake, the Gampaha District Returning Officer, and several others as respondents.
